At Hawksmoor House we support SUSTAINABLE TOURISM and embrace GREEN INITIATIVES that are kind to our environment, grow our communities and preserve our heritage for future generations.

Sustainable Food Chains

Sustainable Food Chains

  • We have a luscious vegetable & herb garden that we use produce from in our dishes to encourage a farm to table style of living. All of our food waste is put into a compost heap that we use to fertilise our beautiful gardens and orchards.
  • We abide by a sustainable purchasing policy, where we source our products and produce from local suppliers; in this way we can continue to build up our community.
  • Manure from the farm’s resident horses is used as natural fertilizer to enrich the soil.
  • We are actively growing more trees on the property to enhance biodiversity and contribute to carbon sequestration.
Support Local Communities

Support Local Communities

  • Our employees are all from the surrounding area, as we believe that sustainable living starts with giving back to the local community.
  • We abide by a sustainable purchasing policy, where we source our products and produce from local suppliers; in this way we can continue to build up our community.
Clean Technology

Clean Technology

  • Garden irrigation water is sourced directly from a dam, which is naturally replenished during the winter months. Water for guest use comes from an on-site borehole, ensuring a sustainable and self-sufficient.
  • The farm makes use of a grey water system and all wastewater is treated onsite.
  • Vines and vegetables are hand-picked to protect soil health and reduce the need for fuel-powered machinery, minimising CO2 emissions.
  • All bathrooms are fitted with Low Flow shower heads to assist in water saving.
  • The portions of our property without thatched roofs have solar panels, to minimise the non-renewable energy usage.
  • All Back of House and Front of House areas are fitted with LED lights.
Waste Reduction Management

Waste Reduction Management

  • All our food waste is put into a compost heap that we use to fertilise our beautiful gardens and orchards
  • We are in the process of replacing older equipment with Energy Efficient equipment; to try and generate as little waste as possible, we always attempt to reuse and repair our existing equipment first.
  • The elimination of single use plastics throughout our property is one of our short-term goals that we continuously work towards.
  • Hawksmoor House minimises plastic use on the premises. Guests are provided with glass water bottles, and tins are recycled locally. Plastic waste is responsibly managed as part of our waste removal process.
  • Our aim is to create a Waste Management System to assist in recycling general and guest room waste.
