Shiraz – Hawksmoor Red – 2014

Wine Name & Vintage:

Shiraz – Hawksmoor Red – 2014

(SOLD OUT- New vintage to be bottled and labelled in a few weeks)

We make a single variety wine from each of our red grape cultivars and choose a “classic” to be named simply by its grape, under the Hawksmoor label.

Grape(s) / Blend:

Shiraz- 100%.  Our “terroir” suits this variety well. We make it as a single varietal, and also use it in our two signature “Rhone” style blends: Saint Alfege’s and Algernon Stitch.

Oaking / Alcohol %:

14 % alcohol by volume. Gently oaked in mature French and American barrels for 24 months. Limited release – only 3 barrels made.

Platters Rating:

Platters Comments:

“Hint of scrub, hedgerow fruit…. Less plush than previous, little body, good freshness” – now there is the honesty! However, we sell the majority of our wines from tastings and this wine proved popular. So much so, that at time of writing we have two cases left, that we will keep for our personal cellar “library”. Certainly 2014 seemed a more popular year for Shiraz as a blending wine.”

Number of bottles made:

1,110 bottles

Further Notes:

Our Shiraz vines are now 19 years old. We have some 5,85 hectares and use this variety both as a single cultivar wine and as a blending wine. Generally with oaking.
