Wine Tasting & Tours

Hawksmoor is set at the heart of the Cape Wine Routes: all around you, in every direction you look, there is wine. And it's waiting for you. Whether you choose to drive yourself, or we arrange a driver for you, there are few better ways to spend a couple of days, than wandering through the Cape Winelands, stopping in at earth-cool traditional cellars or at the newer, sophisticated architectural tasting rooms, to taste some of South Africa's best vintages and cultivars.

Spend a day visiting world renowned wine farms and wineries, tasting award winning wine and appreciating the absolute beauty of the Cape Winelands. Wine tours can be booked through our lodge manager within the premier wine-producing regions of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.

Some of our preferred partners include:
La Rochelle Tours for a wonderful chocolate, olive, wine & cheese tasting tour
Redwood Tours for private and scheduled wine tastings
Delta Crest/Solms Delta for wine tasting on horseback - or just horse riding
Paradise Stables in Franschhoek for wine tasting on horseback

Picnics

All you really need for a picnic is a patch of shady grass, a view and some delicious food – and the Winelands has these in abundance! Some wine farms offer the option of a gourmet picnic basket complete with everything you need, while others allow you to bring your own. What better way to sample the region’s famous wines than a stint on a picnic blanket in the sun?

Some of our preferred partners include:
Le Pique Nique at Boschendal Wine Estate: during the spring and summer months, this is the perfect locale for an al fresco lunch of pre-packed wicker-basket picnics.
Jordan Wine Estate: a perfectly situated Stellenbosch wine farm with panoramic views of both False and Table Bay.

Restaurants

Whether you’re looking for fine dining or family-friendly - there are wonderful restaurants to be enjoyed in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Cape Town and Franschhoek. We suggest you do some research and explore your town of choice! From world famous wine estates to eccentric teashops, restaurants in the area are gloriously diverse.

Markets

The markets in Stellenbosch are a food lovers' paradise! Here are some of our top picks:

Blaauwklippen Vineyards Sunday Family Market: Every Sunday a delicious variety of prepared food is on offer including as South African, Indian, German, Thai, Italian and Belgian cuisine as well as a fresh produce section.

The Slow Food Market @ Oude Libertas: A gourmet food market and a foodie's heaven where one can taste, bargain, browse and swap recipes. The Treasury Market is held in conjunction, which is a platform for the Cape’s top up-and-coming and renowned designers, artisans and craftsmen to showcase their wares.

Courtyard Market at the Woodmill: This Market runs on the last Friday of every month, 17:30 to 22:00. Located indoors, this contemporary night market offers a brilliant family activity on a Friday night, no matter the weather.

Root 44 Market at Audacia Farm: located on the R44 between Stellenbosch & Somerset West, this new addition to the Winelands market selection offers a wide variety of food choices, in scenic (mostly covered) wine farm surroundings. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3.30pm with plenty of parking and a natural wooden children’s area.
